After working as an architectural, commercial, and advertising photographer for 20 years, W. Scott Miles returned to his alma matter, Brooks Institute, to join the BFA Professional Photography faculty. Upon earning his MS in Educational Technology with a focus on using visual media to enhance learning, he served as the BFA Professional Photography Program Chair and later developed the new Master of Science in Scientific and Technological Imaging (MSSTI) program at Brooks Institute. Since 2017, Scott has provided imaging services related to scientific, research, cultural heritage and museum photography, and remains fascinated with communicating the natural world, science, technology and cultural heritage through images. Immersion in scientific imaging methods lead Scott to develop his artistic approach to imaging. He found that he could manipulate time and space through high-speed, time-lapse and macro imaging techniques and create imagery that challenges the viewer’s perceptions of the temporal and spatial environment in which we live. He expresses his visual ideas through installation art that creates experiences that combine and contrast multimedia components.
