Hungry Gardens

Inspired by the work of Anna Atkins, I began a series of cyanotype prints documenting life in the garden. Cyanotype is a nostalgic photographic process distinctive for its Prussian blue print. The photogram technique was used by Victorian botanist Anna Atkins to document plant forms. In my garden I use seasonal plants, drawings, digital transparencies and cut paper to create a visual record of the garden. This exhibition includes 28 hanging wall panels produced over 11 years. The prints are created in the garden, revealed through the power of the sun and rinsed with a garden hose, then dried on the grass. I prefer to use repurposed fabrics and paper in this sustainable art practice. Creating art in the garden allows me to slow down and really appreciate the moment as I document the passing of time.
